Our Story

The Call to Serve

group

FLC was founded in 1979 by Daniel and Beverley Kalnin who were following their vision to uplift the diverse and scattered peoples throughout the Golden Triangle. (The late) Daniel Kalnin came from the predominantly Christian Rawang tribe of northern Myanmar (Burma). From the time he was a young boy, Daniel carried a burden to help his impoverished homeland. Beverley, a Canadian from Toronto, was called by God into mission work as a teenager. Together, they founded Frontier Labourers for Christ (FLC) to minister spiritually and physically to the hill peoples of the Golden Triangle in southeast Asia.

Faithful Beginning

Evangelizing

The organization commenced with 100 dollars donated by Beverley’s home church, Westway Christian Church, Toronto. Daniel and Beverley managed to house 12 students and support many evangelists in their work during the early days. They lived with complete reliance on God's power and provision. The early stage of the ministry began with evangelistic outreach to the predominantly animist Lisu, Lahu, and Akha people of northern Thailand.

The Fruit of Endurance

FLC has helped establish over 200 indigenous churches in the Golden Triangle. The mission personnel consist in 20 full-time staff members in Chiang Mai, 120 supported evangelists across the region, dozens of volunteers serving as board members, teams on short-term projects, and over 180 people trained in the Barefoot Doctors Program.

Board planning

In 1996 FLC acquired the land for the Kalnin Leadership Center. Since then we have completed four buildings which allow for training and housing during our evangelism, education, health, and development work.

Future Plans

As we expand our Great Commission labours, we continue to raise up strong leaders, evangelize unreached peoples with the Gospel, and move into new regions and countries.
